Treatment of Anxiety

Did You Know?

  • Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.
  • Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.
  • People with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders.
  • Anxiety disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.

All of us experience stress in our lives. Sometimes, that stress can become so overwhelming that it makes us unable to function.

Some common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Constant worry
  • Sweaty palms
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Avoiding places and situations
  • Feeling restless and fidgety
  • Feeling angry for no reason
  • Dizzy spells
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms
  • insomnia
  • Nausea
  • Panic attacks
  • Sudden overwhelming sense of fear, dread and panic

Whether you’re suffering from panic attacks, obsessive thoughts, unrelenting worries, or an incapacitating phobia, it’s important to know that you don’t have to live with anxiety and fear. Treatment can help, and for many anxiety problems, therapy is often the most effective option.

In therapy, I will help you uncover the underlying causes of your worries and fears; learn how to relax; look at situations in new, less frightening ways; and develop better coping and problem-solving skills.    Therapy gives you the tools to overcome anxiety and teaches you how to use them.
